About a month ago Dunn, R-Panama City, introduced the Ensuring Veteran Enterprise Participation in Strategic Sourcing Act, which aims to help veterans contract more with the government.

Many veteran-owned small businesses are not getting to contract with the VA, Dunn said Wednesday in a phone interview with The News Herald. Current law requires the VA to give veterans a preference when contracting with outside vendors, though the VA purchases routine office supplies and services through the General Services Administration (GSA), which does not share the same requirement, according to a news release from Dunn’s office.

“It’s a pretty simple bit of legislation but is potentially powerful for the veterans,” Dunn, who served in the Army as a surgeon for 11 years, said Wednesday.
